Robotic fodder...

Sometimes an idea pops in your head and you just have to get it down on paper.
I started thinking about all the robots in SI-FI that have been zapped by lasers, blown up into a smoking, sparking heap with very little resistance, so that the storylines Hero could pass and go on to triumph over the robots evil master. This is a running theme through the history of science fiction, whether it be Star Wars, Star Trek, Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers.
I thought onward about this Robotic fodder and how it must be manufactured on mass in a huge factory somewhere in the universe.
This is Kevin the robot, I decided to hand draw him based the illustration on the work of one of my favourite Illustrators Matt Dixon. I also decided to designed a brand logo using the name that I gave him to give a more corporate business feel.
From here on in I created the poster below as an imaginary advertising campaign focused on anyone thinking about setting up their very own evil empire.

I started with a sketch on grey paper of the Robot I wanted to include in the design. After scanning the drawing, I then imported it into Illustrator and used image trace. After many tweaks to insure I got enough detail and shadow balance I then got work on the graphic elements.
